Committees

BAFT Committees are organized around specific product or operational areas. These committees meet on a monthly, bi-monthly, or ad hoc basis to discuss different initiatives of the Association, share best practices, industry updates, and field expert questions.

Below is a list of the current active committees of the Association. Clicking on each one will give additional details on the committee. Members can join a committee by clicking the "join a committee" button above and filling in the appropriate information. Note that some committees may have requirements around participation.


Trade Finance

Committee Description:
The Trade Finance Committee is a product-oriented Committee focused on issues affecting Trade Finance products, standards, best practices, international trade risk developments, regulatory topics and matters affecting the broader Trade Finance community. The Committee’s work focuses on traditional trade finance products, supported by the work of the operations Committees focused on commercial and standby letters of credit, guarantees, collections, and reimbursements. The Committee and its various technical trade product committees act as key industry voices for various regional and national industry bodies across the globe. In addition to providing comments on various ICC rules, practices and queries, the Committee also serves as an industry leader for the US SWIFT National Committee. Status: Open Membership

Committee Description:
The Supply Chain Finance Committee addresses the interests of BAFT members seeking to optimize the role they play in supporting their clients’ open account supply chain finance activities. This includes trade financing & structures, transaction processing, payments, and associated regulatory and compliance concerns. The committee provides the opportunity for participants to engage in dialogue on market practice and develop best practices within the banking industry that can be leveraged across stakeholders in Supply Chain Finance. Commercial Letters of Credit

Committee Description:
The Commercial Letter of Credit Committee focuses on issues and responds to questions that directly impact the processing environment related to commercial letters of credit. The Committee provides comments on various ICC rules, practices and queries related to commercial letter of credit operations including bank-to-bank reimbursements and collections. The Commercial LC Committee also develops input, case study material, speakers and oversight to the LC workshops as well as applicable participation in conference sessions on Trade. Additionally, the Committee supervises and supports the on-going work of the sub-committees. In the United States, these are: Northeast, Southeast, Central, and West Coast. Committee Description:
The Standby Letter of Credit/Guarantee Committee is comprised of Trade Finance representatives and subject matter experts who meet regularly to discuss matters related to standby letters of credit and demand guarantees, including but not limited to matters concerning industry accepted rules and practice. The committee provides comments on ICC Rules, fields questions from committee members, and prepares consolidated responses as part of our Ask the Expert series. The Committee also develops input, case study material, speakers and oversight to the LC workshops as well as applicable participation in conference sessions on Trade. Additionally, the Committee supervises and supports the on-going work of the sub-committees. In the United States, these are: Northeast, Southeast, Central, and West Coast. Status: Open Membership

Committee Description:
The Payments and Compensation Committee monitors and addresses all transaction processing issues related to payments, including changes to payment processing created out of the Dodd Frank act, UCC4A, as well as Sanctions, Compliance and Regulatory requirements. The Committee interacts with the key network providers such as the Federal Reserve Bank, The Clearing House, Swift and NACHA and ensures it keeps abreast and effectively communicates changes in their processes, rules and standards. The Committee assists in developing industry positions and shares best practices as they relate to payments. The Committee also oversees and updates the BAFT Compensation rules which govern the processing and settlement of interbank payment compensation. Status: Open Membership

Committee Description:

The mission of the Solution Provider Committee is to broaden the industry point of view regarding issues confronting the financial community. The Solution Provider Committee will provide its knowledge and expertise to offer solutions in partnership with the financial community.

The goals and objectives of the Solution Provider Committee are to enhance the dialogue, discussion and debate around industry challenges and new initiatives by providing a Suppliers’ unique perspective. Through interactive participation, we look to gain hands on working knowledge and insights into new industry trends and plans. We will look to enhance member awareness of supplier solutions, products and emerging technology trends that meet the needs of the financial services community. We will support our BAFT membership with industry knowledge, experience and expertise and provide thought leadership through participation in the various BAFT conferences, seminars and webinars.
