About the Certification
BAFT’s Certificate in Foreign Exchange (CFX) provides professionals with an overview of a financial institution’s foreign exchange department and services. Following the completion of the course, the learner should have a basic understanding of the Foreign Exchange (FX) market, products, sales process, FX risk, regulatory and compliance requirements.
Participants will learn how currency moves around the world including different types of local and global payment rails. The target candidate has a junior to intermediate experience in transaction banking and needs to learn more about FX and the working knowledge of foreign exchange as it pertains to their client’s business, including global regulatory differences, risks, and compliance concerns.

What You Will Learn
In this course participants will get a general overview of the Foreign Exchange market, specifically those aspects of the FX market that are important for transaction banking professionals to understand. It will help to become familiar with the Foreign Exchange products most commonly used by financial institutions. Participants will learn the various risks associated with FX from both a client perspective and bank perspective. Also, an overview of how money is moved around the world, different payment types, and the importance that each play in facilitating Global Trade. Members will learn about the relevant laws and regulatory requirements that the bank is liable for, and the importance of complying with local country regulations that restrict payments to certain parties in a transaction.

As a Managing Partner of Finance IQ, Matt has worked with top US and international banks and financial institutions to deliver project solutions and training seminars on all aspects of financial services, with a specialty in risk management, investment management and financial products.
Prior to Finance IQ, Matt was the founding principal of Lucas & Associates, LLC, a leading risk advisory firm in Westport, CT. Lucas was created in 2007 with the mission of helping both buy and sell side firms identify, measure, and manage their credit risk, market risk, counterparty credit risk and operational risk.
Before his work as a globally recognized risk management consultant, Matt held a number of senior positions with leading financial institutions during a career in capital markets that spanned over 20 years. At the Bank of Ireland, he was Executive Vice President and Co-Head of Global Markets for its U.S. operations where he established the policies and procedures related to capital market transactions. Before Bank of Ireland, he was Chief Dealer and Head of Global Markets at American Express Bank where he was a member of the ALM committee as well as the Strategic Direction committee. Matt was also a Vice President of Global Markets at Chase Manhattan Bank and he started his career with Salomon Brothers in their mortgaged backed securities group.
Matt is an adjunct professor of finance at the University of Connecticut and at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield Connecticut.
