BAFT developed the Respondent’s Playbook for Obtaining and Maintaining a Correspondent Banking Relationship in 2019 to train respondent banks on international anti-money laundering/combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT).
Ultimately, it is the correspondent bank that determines whether a relationship with a respondent bank will be established or continued. A respondent bank, therefore, must understand the factors that influence the correspondent bank’s choice to open a new or maintain an existing relationship. This Respondent’s Playbook for Obtaining and Maintaining a Correspondent Banking Relationship (“Playbook”) explores these decision factors and identifies best practices that respondent banks may adopt to improve their success.
