Recertification

Overview of Continuing Professional Development for CDCS®

Recertification is required every three years to demonstrate continuing professional development and to retain the right to use the CDCS® designation. You may earn up to 16 PDUs within one calendar year. You can report activities through BAFT, if you earned your CDCS® certification in Canada, the United States, or Mexico. If you received your CDCS® certification outside of Canada, Mexico, or the United States, please contact ifs (http://cdcs.ifslearning.ac.uk/recertification ). Activities should be recorded on the CDCS® recertification activity reporting form, found here. Forms may be submitted to BAFT at cdcs@baft.org.

Recertification Cycle

The first recertification cycle will start after a successful completion of the initial examination (in April) it will conclude three years later from May 1 of that year so, as an example:

  • If you earned your certification in April 2013 you will complete your first three-year recertification cycle on April 30, 2016.
  • If you earned your certification in April 2014 you will complete your first three-year recertification cycle on April 30, 2017.
  • If you earned your certification in April 2015 you will complete your first three-year recertification cycle on April 30, 2018.
  • If you earned your certification in October 2015 you will complete your first three-year recertification cycle on October 31, 2018.

Following these recertification cycle examples, subsequent recertification cycles will start either on May 1 or November 1 and conclude three years later on April 30 or October 31st, respectively.

Extensions

If you have earned 18 of the 24 PDUs required for recertification within any designated three-year recertification cycle you may apply to BAFT for a one-year extension. The request and CDCS® Activity Reporting Forms to date must be submitted by April 30 or October 31st of the third year of the recertification cycle. An extension to acquire the additional PDUs needed for recertification does not extend your recertification three year validation period. Please note that each extension request will be reviewed; an extension is not automatically guaranteed.

Fees
